Pandemic, Polarization, Climate Change, and Now the Holidays, Transforming Students Stress into Learning Opportunities

Overview

In these challenging times, our students are dealing with an unprecedented combination of stressors. As their teachers, we can see the impact of these stressors in such symptoms as student fatigue, anxiety, depression, anger, and lack of concentration. In this mostly-experiential seminar, participants will have the opportunity to first explore the individual and collective impact of our current world on ourselves. Then we will practice together some teaching techniques that can help us foster learning, by helping students better understand themselves and their world. Participants will finally have the opportunity to ask questions and to learn how to apply these techniques to their own teaching content.
